The Spurs may not have won the 2026 NBA Finals, but that might be the scariest part. This is still an extremely young team, and their best players aren’t even close to reaching their primes yet. San Antonio has already shown that it can compete for a championship, and there are five major reasons why I think the Spurs could become the NBA’s next dynasty.

1. Victor Wembanyama Is the Centerpiece

The first reason is the most obvious: Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama is the centerpiece of the Spurs’ future and is on track to potentially become one of the greatest players of his generation. He’s already putting up crazy numbers on both ends of the floor while still being incredibly young.

The scary part is that we’re probably nowhere close to seeing the best version of Wemby yet. As he gets stronger, gains more experience and continues developing his offensive game, he’s only going to become more difficult to stop.

When you have a generational player like Wembanyama as the centerpiece of your franchise, you already have the most important piece needed to build a dynasty.

2. Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper Give Them Another Young Core

Wemby isn’t doing this alone.

Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper could become the other two centerpieces of this team for years to come. They’re young, athletic, energetic and capable of creating offense alongside Wembanyama.

I see some similarities to what Oklahoma City once had with young Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden. Obviously, Castle and Harper still have a lot to prove before reaching that level, but the idea is similar: San Antonio has multiple extremely talented young players developing at the same time.

More importantly, their games can complement Wembanyama. They can attack the basket, create shots and put Wemby in great positions to score.

Just like Wembanyama, Castle and Harper aren’t even close to their primes. That’s what makes this trio so exciting.

3. They Already Have Playoff and Finals Experience

This might be one of the biggest reasons to believe in San Antonio’s future.

Their young stars already know what it’s like to play deep into the postseason and reach the NBA Finals.

Think about how valuable that experience can become later in their careers. Most young players need years before experiencing that type of pressure. San Antonio’s core is getting that experience while its best players are still around 20 to 22 years old.

Every playoff run gives them another opportunity to learn how to handle pressure, close games, make adjustments and compete against the NBA’s best teams.

They’re learning how to win before they’ve even reached their primes.

4. Their Championship Window Could Be Massive

The Spurs aren’t built around aging superstars who only have two or three seasons left to compete.

Their best players are extremely young.

That means San Antonio potentially has a championship window that could last for years. Even if they don’t win immediately, Wembanyama, Castle and Harper should continue improving.

There will obviously be competition. Teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder have young, talented cores of their own. But that’s what could make the Western Conference so exciting over the next several years.

The more playoff experience San Antonio gets, the tougher they’re going to become.

And because their core is so young, they have something incredibly valuable on their side: time.

5. The Spurs Know How to Develop Great Players

Lastly, look at the history of the San Antonio Spurs.

This organization has developed some incredible players over the years.

Tim Duncan became one of the greatest players in NBA history. Tony Parker and Manu Ginóbili became stars and champions. Kawhi Leonard developed from a young defensive prospect into a superstar.

The Spurs have already shown that they know how to build winning teams and develop talent.

Now they have another generational centerpiece in Victor Wembanyama surrounded by an incredibly talented young core.

If San Antonio continues developing these players, makes smart roster moves and keeps the core together, there’s no reason this team can’t compete for multiple championships.

The Spurs didn’t win it all in 2026.

But they might just be getting started.

And a few years from now, we could be looking at the San Antonio Spurs as the NBA’s next great dynasty.
